What suckers. I can’t help think to myself as I speed towards Shenandoah National Park, watching the inbound traffic crawl into our nation’s capital on a crisp fall morning. The 105 mile stretch of Skyline Drive is a short one hour jaunt from downtown Washington.
It’s November, my favorite time of year to explore. The incredible reds, yellows, and greens of autumn will be on full display. As will the natural waterfalls that can be easily accessed by some 101 miles of the Appalachian Trail that wind through the park.
My favorite spot in the park is Big Meadows. Here, you will often find grazing deer, the occasional black bear, wedding photographers chasing the light, and the most incredible sunset over the Blue Ridge Mountains.
